Tweet My Blog

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I was considering blogging today about the cleaning I’ve been doing.  Then I got distracted by Twitter.  Then I got to wondering if I could use Twitter to notify my followers of my blog entries.  Then, like someone was reading my mind, appears an update from Nicole Dean about a blog post she just published.  She uses a WordPress plugin called TweetMyBlog.

Nicole is so smart!  (And so am I for following her lead.)

Thanks Nicole!   (Again)

SEO for your Blog

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Thanks again to Holly Mann and her Honest Riches 2 ebook.  I now have a new Wordpress plugin installed on my blog to help with search engine optimization (SEO).  This plugin allows you to add your own chosen title, description and keyword meta tags to each blog entry.

Holly had the plugin created in October 2006  after ”searching endlessly” and couldn’t find a plugin with the features she wanted.  She offers it free to the public to use and it can be downloaded at http://www.cheekyo.com/SEOplugin/meta_editor_plugin.zip

Of course, if you need any help installing this plugin (or any others for that matter), just let me know.  My website maintenance fees are very reasonable.

The Rainbow Connection

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I am adding this blog post to the categories of business, life balance and website updates.  I’m willing to bet that you are wondering what on earth The Rainbow Connection has to do with business, life balance and website updates.  Well, even if you aren’t wondering… I’m going to tell you any way.  LOL!

Two years ago, March 3rd, 2005 to be exact, I officially launched my online business.  However, at that time the website was not called “Connecting Rainbows” and it wasn’t exactly about “life balance for the work at home mom”.

When I originally created my website, it was catch-all for the direct sales businesses I was involved in.  I believe it was Discovery Toys, Tupperware and Arbonne at that time.  Basically, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I was fumbling around in the work at home world with no direction.

Still wondering about the whole “Rainbow Connection” thing?  Good.  I’m glad you’re interested.  :)

It’s all about Kermit and the song.  No, really!  The song inspired me then and it still does.  Check out the lyrics and see why.  Basically, it was telling me that the answer is out there somewhere and someday I’ll find it.  (Yeah… I’m a dork, but what mom do you know that isn’t a dork at least sometimes?)

So, one thing led to another, I eventually gave up on direct sales, and with the nudging and coaching of some other awesome work at home moms, I began working as a website consultant.  Trying to handle my own work/life balance, the rainbow developed into the concept of life balance that I now share with others on my website homepage.

“The Rainbow Connection” website  also changed it’s name to “Connecting Rainbows”.  Why?  Well, because “The Rainbow Connection” isn’t only a song.  It’s associated with several different organizations and small businesses already.  I wanted something unique, but something that still held the rainbow connection concept.

So there’s my story and the history of Connecting Rainbows.  I hope it all makes sense to you now and I hope it has inspired you as well.
